  • Doe Out

2010 Viterra Ironman 70.3 Kieran Doe is a late withdrawal from tomorrow’s race here in Calgary. The New Zealander came up ill, after his stellar third place performance at Ironman 70.3 Korea in early July. Unfortunately, Doe has not sufficiently recovered to be race shape for this weekend.

  • The Calm Before the Storm

  • Welcome to the 2011 Viterra Ironman 70.3 Calgary, here Canada’s western province of Alberta. We are currently 5-minutes from the start of men and women’s professional races out at Ghost Lake.
  • The professional men and women race has started here at the 2011, Viterra Ironman 70.3 Calgary.
  • Weather

The weather at 6:00 a.m., Mountain Time in Calgary is seeing sunny skies, and the temperature is 15C/60F with light winds. The forecast for the remainder of the day is, sunny, some cloud, and winds out of the southwest at 20kph. Temperatures of 30C/86F are expected today, but with the early 6:10 a.m. start time, most competitors should be completed the race before the temperatures peak out in the mid-afternoon.
  • Swim Course
The single loop swim starts and finishes at the boat ramp located at the Ghost Reservoir (Provincial Park) – 45 km’s north west of Calgary. The course is point-to-point course and begins heading directly away from the boat ramp before turning left (north) under the Highway 1A bridge and into a sheltered arm of the reservoir. The swim will head north for approximately 850 meters before turning to the right for 25 meters then right again now heading south. Shortly after passing under the bridge the course turns right again heading back towards the boat ramp. The swim course exits the water on the left hand side of the boat ramp.
  • We should see Brian Fleischmann, who holds the course swim record, exit the water first again today. Tom Evans, from Penticton – home of the Subaru Ironman Canada – has the swim ability to stay with the Fleischmann, and we may see the pair working together to distance themselves from the field.
  • Canadian, Tanille Hoogland, who holds the course record here, should hit the boat ramp first in the women’s race.
