  • Bell and Jacobs make the turn. Jacobs tried to tell us earlier this week that he hadn't really focused much on his bike riding since Kona - he planned on trying to rip out another amazing run here this weekend. Seems like he's biking just fine right now, though!
  • Ogden leads the next group. He's riding along with Matty White and Joshua Rix.
  • What's up with Patrick Vernay? The man who's been virtually unbeatable here in Australia over the last four years has disappeared from the picture. Here are the splits for the first five through 60 km: 1 Luke BELL 7 Pro Bike 60k 02:16:33 00:00:00
    2 Pete JACOBS 3 Pro Bike 60k 02:16:37 00:00:03
    3 Courtney OGDEN 4 Pro Bike 60k 02:19:02 00:02:28
    4 Joshua RIX 13 Pro Bike 60k 02:19:20 00:02:47
    5 Matty WHITE 6 Pro Bike 60k 02:19:22 00:02:48
  • Keat and Pearson continue to lead the way in the women's race - they've gone through 50 km well ahead of the rest of the women.
  • Todd Israel is leading the age group race. He's a 35-year-old from New South Wales.
  • 29-year-old Brett Carter from Queensland is the second age group athlete in the race.
  • Through 50 km, it was Rebekah KEAT (#21) in the lead, followed by:

    * Jodie SCOTT (#26) at 8:30
    * Rhae SHAW (#31) at 8:30
    * Kirsten MOLLOY (#25) at 8:30
  • Israel's lead is about 4 minutes on another group of age groupers, including Martin Cramp, Paul Dodd, Steve Lord and Sam Hume.
  • The first 12 through 60 km doesn't include defending champion Patrick Vernay, which leads us to believe he might be out of the race. Here are the splits at the turnaround: 1 Luke BELL 7 Pro Bike 60k 01:27:14 00:00:00
    2 Pete JACOBS 3 Pro Bike 60k 01:27:23 00:00:03

    12 Adam HOLBOROW 10 Pro Bike 60k 01:29:56 00:06:29
  • Vernay is still there! His chip must not have registered over the mat at 60 km. Through 70 km, he's definitely in the mix - riding with a group at 2:51behind our race leaders Luke Bell and Pete Jacobs. Courtney Ogden has moved up - he's now 2 minutes behind the lead.
  • Keat and Pearson have gone through 60 km of the bike in 1:40. 11 seconds separate the two.

    * Matty WHITE (#6) at 3:20
    * Joshua RIX (#13)
    * Patrick VERNAY (#1)
    * Simon BILLEAU (#9)
    Ogden continues to be the one moving on the leaders - he's been gaining a bit of time every split.
  • Through 70 km, Rebekah KEAT (#21) continues to lead the women's race. Behind her are:
    * Amelia PEARSON (#22) at 13 seconds
    * Kate BEVILAQUA (#23) at 6 minutes
    * Rhae SHAW (#31) at 7 minutes
  • Jodie Scott rounds out the top five in the women's race - she's exactly 10 minutes behind.

    * Richard HOBSON (#796)

  • We just had another sighting of Lucie Zelenkova, who has just gone through 50 km of the bike. We're guessing she's experienced some more mechanical issues out on the course.
  • The women through 80 km - we continue to see Bevilaqua gaining time on the two women ahead of her: In the lead is Rebekah KEAT (#21), followed by:
    * Amelia PEARSON (#22) (who has been riding 50 m behind the women's leader for much of the race.)
    * Kate BEVILAQUA (#23) at 5:15
    * Rhae SHAW (#31) at 6:20
  • Through 100 km, here are the men's splits: Pete JACOBS (#3) is the current leader.

    Behind him are:
    * Luke BELL (#7)
    * Courtney OGDEN (#4) at 1:15 (He continues to gain time on the men in front)

  • Heading out on the bike

  • Lucie Zelenkova continues to work her way through the course. She just started her second of three loops on the bike.
  • The men's splits through 93 km show that Luke Bell and Pete Jacobs have started to put the pressure on the rest of the men in the field. 14 Bill SCANLAN 37 Pro Bike 93k 02:31:39 00:23:40
  • Ideal conditions for the race! The temperature hasn't got too high, as of yet, and there continues to be next-to-no wind out on the course.
  • Luke Bell has taken off! He's opened up a gap of a minute on Pete Jacobs as he heads back into town to finish the second loop of the bike.
  • Luke Bell's move has really changed the dynamics of the race - Pete Jacobs is in second, now 1:25 behind his Aussie countryman. Just 10 second behind Jacobs, Courtney Ogden is riding in third.
  • What was this ... time to make your move time? At the same time that Luke Bell surged ahead, Rebekah Keat decided it was time to get things moving. She's opened up a gap of a minute on Pearson.
  • Through 100 km we're now seeing why Keat decided it was time to get moving - Kate Bevilaqua is only 3:30 behind the women's leader.
  • 1 Rebekah KEAT 21 Pro Bike 93k 02:36:00 00:00:00

  • The lead is now up to 4:30 on the chase group that includes our defending men's champion, Patrick Vernay. We'll have splits momentarily.
  • Once again we're not seeing defending champion Patrick Vernay's chip register over the mat at the turnaround at the hot corner, but he is in the group that's chasing Luke Bell at about 4:30. Here are the splits at 120 km:
    1 Luke BELL 7 Pro Bike 120k 02:56:50 00:00:00

  • Luke Bell is leading the way on the bike.

  • Early race leader Lucie Zelenkova has had bike issues through the day

  • Luke Bell's lead is now 2:10 over Courtney Ogden as he heads through the 130 km point of the ride. Pete Jacobs is in third at 3:45.
  • Rebekah Keat is our current women's leader on the bike

  • The chase group loses more time - Billeau, Rix, White and Vernay are now 5:05 behind race leader Luke Bell.
  • Defending men's champion Patrick Vernay is riding about 5 minutes behind race leader Luke Bell at the 130 km point of the race

  • Here comes the rain! It's started to rain here at the finish line/ transition area in Busselton. Where did that come from?
  • Kevin Mackinnon interviews Luke Bell

  • We've just learned that Lucie Zelenkova has had to pull out of the race due to mechanical issues on her bike. She's had a tough year - two days before her attempted title defence at Ironman South Africa she learned her fiance's brother had died. Earlier this fall she won an Ironman distance event in Europe, though, proving that she will always be a contender. We'll look forward to seeing Zelenkova at the front of many more races in the future!
