- Hot Racing Predicted for Subaru Ironman Canada
Subaru Ironman Canada will have both the men and women's 2010 champions returning to defend their titles. With temperatures predicted to be in the 30 to 35 degrees Celsius (85 to 95 Fahrenheit) for race day, it appears we are in for a hot race in more ways than one. The men's race is shaping up to be a competitive one with four previous winners returning, along with some other legitimate pre-race favorites who haven't won in Canada. In the women's race, the defending champion will see threats from a number of sources, but Mary Beth Ellis, fresh off two Ironman wins, arrives as a clear favourite.

Subaru Ironman Canada Swim Course
- Swim Course
The 3.8 km swim starts off the southern shore of Lake Okanagan and heads northwest for 1612 m, northeast for 450m and then returns heading southeast for 1800m to the swim finish. - Age group race is about to start!
- The 2011 Subaru Ironman Canada age group race has started here in Penticton. It looks like we could have up to 3000 starting this morning for the 29th edition of this iconic race. What a history!
- Swim course records
In 1995, Mike Shaffer established the men’s swim record in a time of 43:54.
Joanna Zeiger holds the swim record for the women as she exited the water in 47:36 - We are 22-minutes into the pro race now. With the single loop swim here in Penticton, we rarely get any spotting reports from the swim course.
- Right now we have a report of three men have 75 meter lead on the field. New Zealand’s Bryan Rhodes has exited the swim here at Ironman Canada the lead on a few occasions, and we should expect him to attempt the same here today. Olympian, Paul Tichelaar could keep him company with his ITU speed as well as Torsten Abel who has displayed his superior swimming skills in the past.

Subaru Ironman Canada Bike Course
- Bike course
The bike is a 180-kilometer single-loop course that heads south of Penticton and passes through the towns of Okanagan Falls, Oliver and Osoyoos. Before entering Okanagan Falls athletes are forced up McLean Creek Road for a nasty climb for 1.5 kilometers. During the next 45 kilometers participants go slightly downhill and pass fruit orchards, farms, vineyards, wineries and fruit stands. Those racing know they are in for a world of work as they view the mammoth Canadian flag at the Husky gas station in Osoyoos. The flag is the symbol that competitors are required to make a hard right hand turn and head up the infamous Richter Pass. The pass consists of an 11 km climb that varies from four to eight per cent steepness. After Richter Pass, you are greeted to a screaming six or seven kilometers of downhill.
In desert like conditions, a number of good sized rollers lead you into the town of Keremeos. You are treated with a brain numbing out-and-back section that feels like it takes you forever to get out of.
The last 60 kilometers of the bike you are served up some false flats as you exit the out and back section and a couple more climbs that are short and tough. Many race plans and goals have been thrown out during this section of the bike. The last 20 kilometers provide some rewarding descents where you can take care of your hydration and fuel needs before entering the bike/run transition in town. - At McLean Creek Road - 18 km into the bike, the running order for the men is:
* Bert Jammaer (#10) is in the lead
* Bryan Rhodes (#2) at 0:05
* Mathieu O\'halloran (#17) at 1:12
* Torsten Abel (#12) at 1:53
* Hiroyuki Nishiuchi (#22) at 3:03
* Jordan Rapp (#4) at 3:05
* Viktor Zyemtsev (#1) at 3:08
* Scott Curry (#11) at 3:22
* Torsten Abel (#12) at 4:00

* Meredith Kessler (#31) is our leader
* Mary Ellis (#34) at 0:02
* Maki Nishiuchi (#41) at 3:50
* Sara Gross (#36) at 7:17
* Kim Loeffler (#35) at 11:09
* Lauren Harrison (#40) at 11:24

* Fiona Whitby (#43) at 12:50
* Haley Cooper-scott (#37) at 15:38
