  • We've learned that the men have made it to the top of the Col de L'Ecre. Unfortunately that summit is out in the middle of nowhere - so we don't have any radio or cel phone connection. We'll hopefully get some splits shortly.
  • At the top of the Col de L'Ecre, FREDERIK VAN LIERDE (#2) and * FRANCOIS CHABAUD (#5) remain in front, but Paul Amey is now making a move and Marcel Zamora has finally stopped losing time to the two leaders. Here are the splits behind the front two:

    * PAUL AMEY (#3) at 3:45
    * MARCEL ZAMORA PEREZ (#1) at 8:10
    * JOSE JEULAND (#6) at 8:10
    * BRUNO CLERBOUT (#4) at 10:20
    * DOMENICO PASSUELLO (#14) at 10:50
    * EDOUARD ENTRAYGUES (#1186) at 12:10
  • While JOHANNA DAUMAS (#35) currently leads the women, Alexandra Louison has really started to shake things up - she's now in second place and has closed the gap considerably. Here are the splits behind Daumas - I believe this is at about 60 km:

    * ALEXANDRA LOUISON (#33) at 1:30
    * JEANNE COLLONGE (#38) at 1:50
    * BRITTA MARTIN (#34) at 4 minutes
    * SILVIA FELT (#36) at 4:15
  • FREDERIK VAN LIERDE (#2) and * FRANCOIS CHABAUD (#5) remain in front through 75 km. Turns out that last split wasn't correct for Amey - he was actually 5:45 back. The two leaders are now back to pulling away from the rest of their competition at this point. Here are the splits for the men chasing behind:

    * PAUL AMEY (#3) at 6 minutes
    * MARCEL ZAMORA PEREZ (#1) at 9:10
    * JOSE JEULAND (#6) at 9:10
    * BRUNO CLERBOUT (#4) at 11:40
  • Olivier Marceau, last year's third place finisher, is out on the course helping us with spotting this year. Rather than racing in an Ironman in 2011, he's focusing on XTERRA and 70.3 races - he'll also be racing at the ITU Cross Championship.
  • The top 20 women through 56 km. Katya Meyers has moved up another spot - she's now in 11th.
    50 (1) DAUMAS JOHANNA 35 F FRA B56 Pre du Lac 02:39:30
    96 (2) COLLONGE JEANNE 38 F FRA B56 Pre du Lac 02:43:37

    554 (20) BLACKWELL TRISH 57 F USA B56 Pre du Lac 03:01:30
  • Through 85 km, things haven't changed much - although the men's leaders are going to be hitting another major climb soon, which could shake things up again.
    FREDERIK VAN LIERDE (#2) * FRANCOIS CHABAUD (#5) are riding together, then we have:

    * PAUL AMEY (#3) at 5:30
    * MARCEL ZAMORA PEREZ (#1) at 9:10
    * JOSE JEULAND (#6) at 9:10
    * BRUNO CLERBOUT (#4) at 11:51
  • Through 70 km the women's race is really getting interesting. They have just finished the long climb up to the top of Col de L'Ecre.

    JOHANNA DAUMAS (#35) is the current leader.

    Behind her are:
    * JEANNE COLLONGE (#38) at 30 seconds
    * ALEXANDRA LOUISON (#33) at 47 seconds
    * BRITTA MARTIN (#34) at 3:50
    * SILVIA FELT (#36) at 4:08

    JOHANNA DAUMAS (#35) is the current leader.

    Behind her are:
    * JEANNE COLLONGE (#38) at 30 seconds
    * ALEXANDRA LOUISON (#33) at 47 seconds
    * BRITTA MARTIN (#34) at 3:50
    * SILVIA FELT (#36) at 4:08
  • Once they're done this next climb, the race leaders will be pretty much done all the climbing on this challenging course. There's one more climb at Coursegoules, but other than that they're going to be either going downhill or flat for much of the rest of the way.
  • Through 95 km (which is in the midst of a long downhill), the big news is that Bruno Clerbout has cracked and is now more than 15 minutes down. Here are the splits:
    Leading the men is FREDERIK VAN LIERDE (#2) and * FRANCOIS CHABAUD (#5) continue to lead the way. They are followed by:

    * PAUL AMEY (#3) at 5:55
    * MARCEL ZAMORA PEREZ (#1) at 10:10
    * JOSE JEULAND (#6) at 10:10
    * DOMENICO PASSUELLO (#14) at 11:20
    * SIMON BILLEAU (#8) at 13:10
  • Marcel Zamora is certainly going to find himself with a challenge if he wants to take his sixth straight title here in Nice. Van Lierde arrives in Nice with lots of confidence thanks to a huge win in Abu Dhabi earlier this year over a field that can only be described as "stacked." The Belgian athlete is certainly riding with a lot of confidence right now.
  • Through 85 km things are shaking up again in the women's race. Check out the split behind the leader - once again Alexandra Louison is making a big move:
    JOHANNA DAUMAS (#35), followed by:
    * ALEXANDRA LOUISON (#33) at 13 seconds
    * JEANNE COLLONGE (#38) at 40 seconds
    * BRITTA MARTIN (#34) at 3:27
    * SILVIA FELT (#36) at 3:38
  • Frederik Van Lierde and Francois Chabaud have gone through the 105 timing point.
  • Amey remains in third, but he's lost more time to the two leaders. Here are the splits at 105 km:
    1 (1) VAN LIERDE FREDERIK 2 MPRO BEL B105 Greolieres 03:45:56
    2 (2) CHABAUD FRANCOIS 5 MPRO FRA B105 Greolieres 03:45:57
    3 (3) AMEY PAUL 3 MPRO UK B105 Greolieres 03:53:06
  • Heading up the last climb, our two leaders are feeling great - they had a good snack on the last flat and were chatting with each other. Behind them, though, Paul Amey is struggling - he told our spotter, Olivier Marceau, that he pushed too hard on the downhill and is paying for it. Here are the splits:
    FREDERIK VAN LIERDE (#2) is the current leader.

    Behind him are:
    * FRANCOIS CHABAUD (#5) same time
    * PAUL AMEY (#3) at 6:20
    * MARCEL ZAMORA PEREZ (#1) at 11:20
    * JOSE JEULAND (#6) at 11:20
