3:00 Friday: This could be one for the ages. Looks like someone is pouring half the Atlantic straight down onto Christiansted (and I see pairs of animals being herded onto a large boat by a bearded man). Forecast for race day is worse.

Barry Siff reports on this weekend's race in the U.S. Virgin Islands
The first "America's Paradise Triathlon" was held on the magnificently beautiful island of St. Croix in 1988. The largest prize purse in triathlon (the winner would take home over $45,000) brought the likes of the "Big Four" (Allen, Molina, Scott & Tinley), young superstars Mike Pigg & Jurgen Zack, Paula Newby-Fraser, the Puntous twins, Julie Moss ... and a young 16 year-old from Texas, Lance Armstrong.

I have been to the St. Croix Ironman 70.3 five times now, and have always come away - and written about - the hills, heat, and humidity of this extremely challenging race. Well, after speaking with several pros on Friday at the practice swim, I have a new, more simple theme: "unrelenting."

Today brought an occasional torrential downpour on the Island, but tomorrows forecast is looking much more promising. The weatherman's race-day forecast is calling for sunny conditions, a chance of showers, temperatures hovering in the 29C/84F range and will be accompanied with high humidity.
The professional men’s race hits the water at 6:30 am Eastern Time and our women’s race will commence at 6:33 am. Join us race day for periodic text updates of the action from the course in addition we will have the athlete tracker will be available throughout the day. -
