IRONMAN Maastricht - Limburg

Welcome to the inaugural IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg!
Athletes will embark on a stunning course on Sunday - by the way, this race will lead them into the history of world class cycling. Read more...
The course: The swim is in the river Maas and goes under the Provincial Government Building, which is partly built over the river. The two-loop bike course follows roads that are famous in the world of cycling—it is the same course as the yearly Amstel Gold Race and also hosted the 2012 UCI Road World Championships. Athletes will enjoy spectacular scenery that has long drawn recreational cyclists and runners, who are increasingly discovering Limburg as the number one location for their sport. The splendid, but difficult, Cauberg Hill in Valkenburg will remain the traditional make-or-break feature of the bike course. The run loop in Maastricht heads up the Sint Pieter Hill and by the beautiful Jeker valley (Jekerdal). The finish line will be in the historic city centre of Maastricht on the Market in front of the City Hall.

Beautiful morning in Maastricht, it's sunny, 14 degrees Celsius at the moment. The weather forecast says that we are going to have up to 25 degrees today.

Pre-race atmosphere in Maastricht - only 3 more minutes to wait.

They are off! The pro men are on the way at the 2015 IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg.

This is the swim course. It's a one-loop-course in the river Maas.

Pro women are on their way!
We wait for the huge age group field now - five minutes to go. At 7.45 we have a relay start. The inaugural IRONMAN Maastricht offers a unique and spectacular IRONMAN team relay.
Athletes seem to have perfect race conditions today. The wind is always a question, but the temperatures seem to be ideal.
This is your race: The age group field has started!
Mark Oude Bennink, Martijn Dekker and Bas Diederen are all from the Netherlands, they are all in one team - and very fast swimmers. Bennink had the fastest swim at IRONMAN Lanzarote in May, Dekker was fifth out of the water at the IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt four weeks ago. Diedern ranked ninth in Frankfurt in the swim.
And that's how it is, Dekker leads in front of Diederen and Oude Bennink. Alberto Casadei from Italy is in fourth.
