IRONMAN Louisville presented by Norton Sports Health

  • After 16 miles Bree's lead is 1:14 ahead of Jackie Arendt.
  • For the first time today Chris McDonald is gaining a bit of time on Patrick Evoe. Here are the splits at 21 miles:
1 7:56:35 2 Evoe, Patrick Austin TX USA MPRO
2 8:08:52 12:18 1 McDonald, Chris Carlsbad CA USA MPRO

  • Bree Wee is hanging tough - for the first time in the run she's gained some time on Jackie Arendt - a mile before that last split the gap was actually down to 1:09.
  • Jason Shortis just came across the line in fourth place - a nice way to celebrate his 70th Ironman race!

  • We're expecting Chris Hauth across the line shortly - at 5 miles he was leading the age group race overall, so he might be our overall age group winner today, too.
  • Through 25 miles the gap is now up to 1:19. Bree Wee is hanging really tough here!
  • What a race for Bree Wee. She burst onto the Ironman scene at home when she set a new age group record at the Ironman World Championship. That was a year after she became a mom.

Since she's turned pro she's had some top finishes, but never been able to get an Ironman win. Today she seems on her way to achieving that - and Jackie Arendt has made her earn it!
  • Through 25.5 miles the gap is up to 1:26. Bree Wee is going to do it, it looks like.
  • What a day for Hawaii's Bree Wee! Her first Ironman title.

  • Bree Wee has a block to go! At one pioint her lead was just 30 seconds - she hung tough, though, and managed to hold Jackie Arendt off for her first Ironman win.
  • Jackie Arendt certainly put it all out there today - the second year pro was second here last year and followed that up with another runner-up finish today.

  • She was second a year ago and an oh-so-close second again this year - Timex Multisport Team member Jackie Arendt had a phenomenal race today.

  • Just five seconds esparated Bree Wee and Jackie Arendt after the swim - it was the three minute difference on the bike that won the race today for the Hawaiian. (Arendt ran the marathon two minutes faster, but it wasn't quite enough.)

  • And any second now we'll see Heather Gollnick - wow, how close was that race for third?
  • Heather Gollnick the winner of the inaugural race here in Louisville, just crossed the line in fourth.
