IRONMAN Canada

Very drizzly this evening, but absolutely gorgeous! Had fun navigating through the village, checking out the local restaurants, walking trails, and some pretty brave mountain bikers showing off their tricks on the slopes. The rain is supposed to clear up by Friday, but rain or shine I am very excited for the festivities! I can definitely spot Ironpeople everywhere ????

Look at our amazing team of volunteers that came out to the Athlete Bag and Packet Stuffing station! #IronManCanada #whistlerunfiltered #givewherewelive #adapttheplayground

It is a beautiful morning in Whistler with the current temperature sitting at 8C/47F. Out at the Alta Lake, the water is glass like with no clouds in the sky. It is going to be a warm day for those racing as the Environment Canada is calling for the temperature to reach 27C/81F.

The Shins and this = morning perfection. Good morning Whistler! #IMCanada #swimbikerunbear

#IMCanada Pro race start is only 20 minutes away under pristine conditions - clear sky, glass like water and temps to reach 27C/81F.

Our age group race here at 2014 Subaru Ironman Canada has just started under ideal conditions. We have 845 first-time Ironman starters today.

The race will start with a two-loop, 2.4-mile mass start swim in the clean shallow waters of Alta Lake at Rainbow Park, which has an average water temperature of 67 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit in late August.

Race start from our spotter’s vantage

A pack of five men are leading are leading out the men's field. We know Paul Ambrose and Marino Vanhoenacker are in there.
Course record here in Whistler for the swim is Bryan Rhodes - NZL (48:45) and Christine Hammond - USA (48:45).
Anna Cleaver from New Zealand leads the women's race with an unidentified women on her heels. If we were to guess who is trailing Cleaver we would say it would be Bree Wee.
You have to say it would be difficult not to take a spectacular photo here in Whistler!
Just to let you know we are doing are best to bring you some live video (no audio) of the pro race swim from a boat. Check it out on our SWIM FINISH camera right now.
Looks like a pack five men are heading to the swim finish now.

The two-loop, 26.2 mile run course follows the meandering Valley Trail past Lost Lake and Green Lake allowing spectators to reinvigorate athletes with a return through Whistler Village at the halfway point of the run. Athletes repeat the same loop a second time before finishing adjacent to Whistler Olympic Plaza.

At 13 km into the run, Vanhoenacker has a 11:47 lead on Wurtele who is now running in second.
