  • Thru the first timing mat at mile 12, the big mover is Sanders who has made up 1:16 of his gap. #IM703Cali
  • Spotters are reporting that the thick fog is breaking at about mile 10 on the bike. Here at race central the sun is now shining on the last few swim waves coming in.
  • And just like that, the fog has lifted off the harbor and it's the bright sunny day we were expecting. #IM703Cali
  • And the last few waves are in the water getting ready to start under clear sunny skies
  • At mile 15, Potts continues to lead the group. Frodeno, McMahon & Belaubre seem content to let him set the pace for now. They've increased the gap to the chasers to over 1 minute.
  • Holly Lawrence has opened up over a minute lead on Magali Tisseyre & Alicia Kaye

  • At mile 20 Frodeno has moved to the front and is now driving the group. The chase pack led by Ronnie Schildknecth is 55 seconds back.
  • Pro Men at MIle 20 Thick Fog again

  • At mile 12 previous champion Melanie McQuaid is 6:45 back from the lead and riding hard.
  • At mile 20 Holly Lawrence continues to grow her lead. It's now 1:35 over Tisseyre and Kaye. Angela Naeth is 2:10 back. Following her are Heather Jackson, Heather Wurtele, Rachel McBride & Laurel Wassner all with in 3:30.
  • The Pro Womens Leader Holly Lawrence spent the latter part of 2014 in Olympic Distance events representing her home country of Wales in the Commonwealth Games. It seems she is bringing that speed here to Oceanside!
  • As the pro men re-entered Camp Pendleton, Maik Twelsiek has closed the gap and attacked the base of the big climb. He has taken a 15 second lead over Frodeno & Potts.
  • Holly Lawrence continues to expand her lead. At mile 25 her lead is now up to 2:20 over Naeth & Tisseyre

  • More women at mile 25 - Alicia Kaye is 2:30 down in 4th place with Heather Jackson following in 5th. Heather Wurtele is next 3:45 down. Carrie Lester and Rachel McBride are 4:20 back from the lead.
  • the transition area is bustling with athetes coming and going

  • At mile 35, Maik Twelsiek leads by 25 seconds over the chase group of McMahon, Frodeno, Potts & Jesse Thomas & Schildknecht.
  • Leading the next group, just 50 seconds down of the lead now is Lionel Sanders. Belaubre, Leon Griffin & Kevin Collington round out the chasers.
  • Sanders has made up 3 minutes and is closing fast. Look for him to catch the back of the lead group by the next climb. #IM703Cali
  • Our spotters are reporting that the backside of the bike course is cool and a wonderful place to ride!
  • Another big mover on the bike is Jesse Thomas who has also closed 3 minutes of his deficit out of the swim to join the front chase group.
  • Holly Lawrence continues to expand her lead. At mile 32 her lead is now up to 2:36 over Angela Naeth & Heather Jackson.
  • Wow, Lionel Sanders is flying. At the base of climb 2 he has moved into 2nd place is just 26 seconds back of Twelsiek. #IM703Cali
  • Unfortunately Magali Tisseyre has had a mechanical at about mile 30 and is out of the race, a shame as she was riding well and in the mix

  • At mile 40 Twelsiek leads Sanders by 30 seconds. The chase pack of Frodeno, McMahon, Potts, Thomas & Schildknecht are a further 10 seconds behind. It's setting up to be a mad rush to see who will the first into T2.

  • Spotters are reporting very calm conditions now that the dense fog has lifted. Sun is out and the day should warm up, hopefully not as hot as the previous days have been
  • Holly Lawrence has just passed our women's spotter at mile 38. He reports she looks really strong and no one else is in sight yet.
  • Lionel Sanders aka "The Green Flash" is riding well in 2nd place

  • At mile 45, Twelsiek leads Sanders by 20 seconds. The chase group of Frodeno, McMahon, Potts & Thomas remain at 40 seconds. A lot of great runners in that group. Unless someone makes a big move in the last few miles, it's setting up to be an exciting run
  • Maik Twelsiek continues to lead

  • Ronnie Schildknecht has dropped from the chase group and is riding alone in 7th place 2:00 down. Leon Griffin is alone in 8th 2:45 down.
  • At mile 38, Angela Naeth & Heather Jackson are riding close to each other chasing Lawrence who continues to ride well. Her lead is nearly 3 minutes.
