  • Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene Women's Preview

    At first glance, the women's race appears to be a no-brainer to call. Great Britain's, Julie Dibens (pictured) is the class of the field and is capable of leading the race from the blast of the starter's cannon to the finish line tape. It will be on the run that where the race will likely be determined, though, with USA's, Cait Snow and Meredith Kessler likely forced to make up for lost time to Dibens outstanding swim/bike combination.

  • Alexander Shakes up the Field in Idaho

    A late addition from Australia shakes up the dynamics of men's race, while a seasoned Canadian veteran hopes draw from his course experience on Sunday at Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene. Add to the mix a German young-gun who likes to race off the front and you have the makings of a great race at this weekend's race.

  • Welcome to the ninth edition of the Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene here in American Northwest. On Sunday, over 2800 age group athletes will start their Ironman journey as they enter the waters of Lake Coeur d’Alene at 7:00 a.m. The vast majority of participants are here simply to finish the challenge ahead of them, while others will be chasing 65 coveted entries into the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championships.

    Our professional men and women’s fields will have a separate wave start at 6:25 a.m. and will be contesting for 1000 Kona Qualifying Ranking points, in addition to a prize purse of $25,000.

  • Good morning from Idaho with the running of the ninth edition of the Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene, here in the Pacific Northwest. We are currently only 15 minutes from the start of the women and men’s pro race start, scheduled to commence at 6:25 am Pacific Time.

    The current temperature is 49 F, sunny with scattered cloud and light winds out of the east at 2-3 mph. The weather forecast today is call for temperatures in the neighborhood of 74 F, with light winds with occasional cloudy periods.

    Our age group race will start at 7:00 am with 2600 athletes hitting waters of Lake Coeur d`Alene. Water has warmed up to 58F, warming up considerably from earlier in the week.
  • The 2011 professional race at the Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene has started with 20 men and 7 women in the field. They will be chasing 1000 Kona Pro Ranking points in addition to $25,000.
  • About 400 meters into the swim, Tom Evans is leading the way, with Maik Twelsiek and Craig Alexander comfortable to hang on the Canadian's heels in choppy water.

  • As expected, Julie Dibens is leading the women’s race as they are nearing the first turn-around buoy.
  • Evans has pushed the pace, and has separated himself from the chase pack of Twelsiek, Alexander and one unidentified athlete by 20-25 meters, as they head back towards shore on the first of the two lap swim course here.
  • Swim course records

    Men’s swim course is held by John Weston of Florence, Montana, who swam a 45:19 at the 2003 Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene. The same year, Boulder Colorado’s Monica Caplin, established the women’s record with a 48:08.
  • Dibens continues to lead the women’s race, swimming on her own, as she heads towards the shore on her first lap. Meredith Kessler is believed to be in second, well off Dibens pace.
  • Evans has really stretched out his lead here as he hits the beach and re-enters the water, about 20-25 seconds ahead of Alexander, Twelsiek and the unidentified athlete.

  • At 5 miles into the bike, Evans is maintaining his lead, with Alexander and Twelsiek, 1:05 back.

  • In the women’s race at five miles on the bike course, Dibens is stretching out her lead and is currently 5:10 ahead of Kessler, and 7:20 out front of Snow.
  • Twelsiek and Alexander have now worked their way towards Evans and are only 15 seconds back of the leader at 10 miles.
  • Twelsiek and Alexander, are our new leaders on the bike here in Coeur dÀlene at 12-13 miles`.

  • Nothing much has changed in the men’s race at mile 15, as Twelsiek continues to show the way out front, with Alexander and Evans following closely.
  • Twelsiek is continues to push the pace at 20 miles. Alexander is 0:03 back with Evans now 0:05 back.
  • Wow, the spotters are reporting at 20 miles, that Dibens is in the fourth position overall.
  • Dibens has opened it up further on the other women as she finds herself 11:35 ahead of Kessler and 12:05 in front of Snow at 20 miles.
  • At 25 miles, Snow has just overtaken Kessler, for second as they hit the hills north of Coeur d’Alene.
  • Twelsiek has made his move at 30 miles. He currently has a 0:55 advantage over Alexander as Evans has faded back to 2:50 to our leading German.
